This wacky story about a 22 year old SF political hopeful making a fake video of his own decapitation got my attention again after being posted on MetaFilter. What's interesting is that the individual, Benjamin Vanderford, has a (thin) presence on the net. Including: Good vs Bad 2, a video game. On SourceForge, available for download. I tried it out. It is, um, strange. A profile on gamedev.net, with lots of posts, some recent. Usenet posts on lucid dreaming and psychedelics. A home page, gone except for a cache with only a hit counter (15145). Various bits in this Google Web search. There's a dividing line in the world now, people who have web presence vs. people who don't. And if you do you'll have one forever, there to be found with relatively little digging.
