One of the amazing things about visiting Texas is how every single
person I've seen has offered me a place to stay. Whether an old friend
I hadn't seen in 20 years or someone I barely knew, pretty much
everyone offered me a guest room in their house. Such lovely
hospitality! I think that offer is much less common in San Francisco;
homes are too small to have a guest room and people generally seem too
busy to casually offer that kind of sharing. That's too bad.
