America / New York time

View from my balcony in Key West. You can almost see Cuba from here. http://gdzl.la/96ixW1

Thousand people crush at Gay New Year on Duval in Key West http://gdzl.la/96jeSZ

Happy New Year! First time in years I've been in a dense crowd and felt safe being gay. http://gdzl.la/96no7C

Golf cart around Key West, saw neat stuff. Tropical gothic houses, open air churches, sad carnival, slave history. http://gdzl.la/96u5Nx

Also: even Key West has a poor black neighborhood (west of Duval). What a terrible legacy slavery left us.

Planning a flight for tomorrow, first of a long journey home. Thinking Mobile, AL or Gulfport, MS. Know nothing about that part of the South

The stairways at our hotel resemble an outdoor Hogwarts http://gdzl.la/96yAjQ

Key West laid back is nice, bit both restaurants today melted down with only half the staff showing up on New Year's. Bummer.

Sunset is all the rage in Key West, but sunrise is pretty good too. http://gdzl.la/96GnXZ

Back in Cross City after a flight under low clouds. Cool Canadian flight of two on the ramp. http://gdzl.la/96QRZd

Interesting power plant on the Florida Gulf coast about 60nm north of Tampa http://gdzl.la/96MQkt

Sitting on the ground at Cross City for 30 minutes now, waiting for an IFR clearance delivered by phone. WX delays just like the airlines!

Made it to Mobile, AL, home of the godaddy.com bowl. Nice flight, a world away from Key West.

Contemplating a Texas crossing tomorrow. Proposed stops: Quitman, Lubbock. Help.

Buying avgas in Quitman, TX from my family's vast mineral holdings in Wood County. Met a pilot who knew my great grandfather.

Arrived Lubbock, for better or worse. Flew right by Dallas Fort Worth's giant airport at 3500'. http://gdzl.la/97frhr

Lubbock's actually not so bad. Decent dinner (Triple J), ok hotel, content. Tomorrow Los Lunas for fuel, Scottsdale for overnight.

Belen, NM for carne adobada and a bowl of green. Nice flight, it's chilly up here. http://gdzl.la/97u4ig

Cheap Holiday Inn: free wifi. Expensive Four Seasons: $10 wifi with a frame advertisement wrapped around every web page. No, really.

Scottsdale sunrise at Pinnacle Peak. Our last day of the trip, easy flight via Palmdale to the barn in San Carlos. http://gdzl.la/97JaYn

Willie J Fox airport, last stop before home. Great trip, but ready to be home. Also: ugly housing from the air. http://gdzl.la/97Rrmd

And we're home! 5000 miles and 42 hours later. Final adventure: barely missing a seagull on the runway. Good thing I land left of center.
