Wind and Truth
Turgid.
I finished! All 1344 pages passed before my eyes, indeed all 6400+ pages of the series so far. We are threatened that this is only the first half of the larger epic story. I will not be reading the second arc. Nor any other books by Sanderson.
It was entertaining enough! And remarkably well structured. It's quite an achievement to write 1344 pages and have it remain coherent and well plotted, free of structural or continuity errors. There is a real author's skill here.
Alas, the author only had 344 pages of story. The other 1000 pages exist. All along I've been complaining the Stormlight books could have been half the length; this one could have been a quarter and nothing important would have lost. He has some good ideas but they are buried in so much.. Not filler exactly, none of it is tedious. Just mediocrity.
Enough complaints. It's an entertaining fantasy epic. And bold in its scope and exploring some human emotions and foibles you don't usually see in fantasy. It's nice to see heroes have weaknesses and some kindness and consideration be world-saving powers. I enjoyed many of the individual characters and their stories. And the whole thing does hold together remarkably well for a book its size.
