I wanted to like this novella, I really did. It's an ambitious story to reference slavery so directly and to talk about the experience of a freed slave, or at least liberated to more freedom, and the challenges and the need to go back and help the people where you're from.

It just didn't work for me as a read. The writing style was too.. wispy? Ethereal? Weird choice to not give the two protagonists names but the other characters names. A lot of the plot action was pretty elliptically described and the transcendental ending lost me entirely. I didn't much like A Stranger in Olondria either, maybe this is just not the author for me.
