I liked this book, it had a lot of interesting ideas in it. I liked its depiction of different kinds of intelligence. Not just the octopuses but also a conventional AI and then some more robotic yet all powerful AI. Also the Tibetan drone interfaces. Just an interesting exploration of so many alternate forms of intelligence. It's a little like Adrian Tchaikovsky's writing but more philosophical, less gee-whiz scifi.

What I didn't like was the action in the book. Or the lack thereof. The book is curiously static. Also devoid of human connections. It's not a huge flaw, what the book does instead is interesting enough, but it felt a little one-note to me.

I also wasn't wild about the horror / monster aspects of the octopus description. I kept feeling dread the whole time. Which may not be an accident, it's deft writing, it just kind of bummed me out.
