Well that was fantastic. For most of the book I was thinking "so this is what people who grew up reading Harry Potter write as adults". School for wizards but with a refreshing change of focus to the decidedly early middle-aged teacher rather than feckless schoolkids. Good storytelling! Took a bit to get off the ground but all was going very well.
Then the last section. Avoiding any spoilers here but the author tried something very ambitious with the writing and it worked great. Elevated this from just a good entertaining book to something really quite special. She had me with the page turning good novel in general but the concluding section took my breath away.
