Planetside

Starts slow, gets good. I was halfway through the book and about to quit when suddenly the Main Plot kicked in. And what a doozy. I thought the author was just going to do this tedious military procedural thing, show off his knowledge of modern US military culture with a thin scifi wrapper around it. But in the second half there's a proper scifi plot and all the investment in culture and personality clashes comes together with that plot to tell a good and chilling story. Disturbing conclusion, too. Good read.
