Buzzy book! I enjoyed it well enough but am not over the moon about it. Well imagined tight little world, interesting characters. The writing style is trying a little too hard at times and has this weird mix of ordinary SFF style and then occasional "young people speak this way" phrases interjected that I guess are authentic but seem a bit odd. Also the whole plot setup was a little too "Harry Potter and the Secret of the Necromancer Palace", I never could figure out if the characters were supposed to be adults, or teenagers, or what. Criticism aside it's a good and enjoyable book and I will gladly read the sequel when it comes.

Update I read this a second time and apparently forgot most of the plot of the first one. Also this time it seemed more "Agatha Christie's Lesbian Necromancers" than Harry Potter. Kind of a hate read on second time through. It's just really too hard to follow. So much of the writing is really good but it doesn't quite stick together in a solid, humanistic book. But it is original and fresh and interesting. I read it again mostly to prepare for reading the rest of the books.
