Fine Structure

Oh I wish I liked this book better. At its core are some wildly inventive ideas. And I'm OK with the loose experimental narrative structure. Except it doesn't work. It doesn't ever quite come together. I nearly quit two or three times in the middle, it gets really bogged down in the conflict between several of the characters. It comes back to a fairly remarkable crescendo towards the end and the broader story gets delivered in a fairly compelling way. If you can follow it, and I only barely could. Sort of.

Goodreads readers give it 4.03★, from 1,955 ratings. I gave it 2★, −2.0, where I'm usually −0.9: I liked it less than most.
