Interesting book! I liked the hard scifi elements, the descriptions of duplicating and managing human consciousness in multiple institutions. And the setup of the local area of space, the remnants of human society, the alien menace. All well told sci-fi elements.

I was also liking the human characterizations right until the alien menace shows up. Unfortunately then the author devoted almost all of the writing to advancing that plot along. And while it was an interesting plot I was hoping for more character development. It was so strong in the first part of the book!

Still enjoyed the book. Might read the rest in the series but not in a hurry to.
