A Prayer for the Crown-Shy
A sweet fun quick read. A musing on humanity and meaning and a gentle explanation of a utopian society. The narration moves along at a brisk pace. The book feels a little self indulgent - the only driving narrative here is the author enjoying explaining the world that's been built and how it reflects on what it means to be human. And it's awfully short for a full length novel. But it's enjoyable and a nice followup to the first book.
Update: I re-read this for a book club. I enjoyed it the second time but it feels.. a little redundant with the first? Chambers gets to spend more time fleshing out her world, it was fun having the vingettes from different perspectives. But the themes are the same as the first book. Also I felt a little cheated she didn't show The City. If there's ever a third book I hope it gets there. Still a sweet read but the first book is the one that hit home for me.
